Farmland LP is a Certified B Corp

We are proud to announce that Farmland LP has officially joined with hundreds of other business as a certified B Corp.  What does that mean?  It doesn’t change our company structure, but rather helps reflect our values, as shown in the B Corp Declaration of Interdependence.

We envision a new sector of the economy

which harnesses the power of private enterprise to create public benefit.

This sector is comprised of a new type of corporation the B Corporation

which is purpose-driven and creates benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders.

As members of this emerging sector and as entrepreneurs and investors in B Corporations,

We hold these truths to be self-evident:

– That we must be the change we seek in the world.

– That all business ought to be conducted as if people and place mattered.

– That, through their products, practices, and profits, businesses should aspire to do no harm and benefit all.

– To do so requires that we act with the understanding that we are each dependent upon another
and thus responsible for each other and future generations.

Craig and I started Farmland LP because we wanted to use the power of finance and organic farming to make a significant positive impact on society and the environment.  That’s what makes us a triple bottom line company—our mission truly goes beyond the simple profit motive.

This certification process holds us accountable for our goals by making our practices more transparent.  And, if you will allow me to brag just a little, our first official B Impact Report gave us the highest-score–ever of 183.3 out of 200 (the average B Corporation scores around 100, and a normal corporation around 60).

I wake up most mornings listening to news on the radio.  It usually doesn’t sound too good.  But spending some time browsing the B Corp web site to see what hundreds of companies are doing makes me feel a lot better.   We are not passively accepting business as usual but creatively building the society we’d prefer to be a part of.  Please support a B Corp where you live.
