Earth Day and its Implications are part of our Core Principles. This is part of why we do what we do.

The first Earth Day in 1970 mobilized millions of Americans for the protection of the planet. On April 22, 1970, 20 million Americans — 10% of the U.S. population at the time — took to the street, college campuses, and hundreds of cities to protest environmental neglect and demand a new way forward for our planet. The first Earth Day is credited with launching the modern environmental movement.

At Farmland LP, we practice the core principles of Earth Day every day. Sustainable management of our farmland works to reverse climate change and generate positive ecological and environmental benefits. Our commitment to the environment is in every decision we make as farmers.

Over the past 10 years, we’ve been demonstrating that doing the right thing for the environment is also doing the right thing for investors, by showing that converting from conventional to regenerative farming delivers higher revenue and profit per acre. That’s an Earth Day message that everyone can get behind, and I’d like to think Senator Gaylord Perry and Denis Hays, the brainchildren behind the first Earth Day, would be pleased.

As you look for something nice to do today, the Old Farmer’s Almanac has some suggestions https://www.almanac.com/content/earth-day-date-activities-history on how to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the birth of the environmental movement, and our first digital Earth Day!

Thank you, Earth, for all your gifts. Like all good children, the older we get, the wiser you appear.

Best wishes,

Craig and the Farmland LP Team
